Libya
The Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. With an area of almost 1,800,000 km2, Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa.
The Libyan economy depends primarily upon revenues from the Oil & Gas sector. The World Bank defines Libya as an ’Upper Middle Income Economy’, along with only seven other African countries. In the early 1980’s, Libya was one of the wealthiest countries in the world.
Today, high oil revenues and a small population give Libya one of the highest GDPs per person in Africa and have allowed the Libyan state to provide an extensive level of social security.
In the recent years Libya is opening up to foreign investments and is able to import more and more European products. The Libyan government is investing along this development. The recent start of the expansion of the port of Tripoli, is a good example. There are also plans to establish an Egyptian-Libyan border free trade zone that would include industrial, warehousing, trade and tourism projects.
The Maes Transport Group has started their services to and from Libya more than 8 years ago and offers a weekly trailer service for full-loads, part loads, reefer trailers, air- and seafreight, exceptional transport and project forwarding.
